It’s Christmastime and Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) and his family are leaving for Miami in the morning. Kevin is not thrilled with the idea of spending Christmas in a place without snow and Christmas trees, but he has to go. After an error with the alarm clocks, the family oversleeps and must scramble to get to the airport and their flight in time. In the chaos, Kevin accidentally gets on a flight to New York City instead and accidentally takes his father’s bag and wallet along with him.

With his father’s money, Kevin is able to experience New York City in style. His parents are miles away and Kevin enjoys his newfound freedom. He checks into the Plaza Hotel and tours the city in a limo. Kevin comes upon a toy store and befriends the owner, Mr. Duncan (Eddie Bracken), who offers him friendship and a Christmas gift. He tells him that the money the store makes from Christmas sales will be donated to children in need.

Kevin’s blissful vacation is interrupted when he comes across the robbers, Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) who attempted to rob his home just a few years before while his parents were away. Remembering Kevin and how they were duped, they capture him and tell him of their plans to rob Mr. Duncan’s toy store.

Luckily, Kevin is able to escape and immediately begins working on a plan to stop the thieves from robbing the store and ruining Christmas for many.
